BiographyCarmen “Mitzy” Haddock, 55, a resident of Silver City, NM passed away Saturday, June 30, 2012 at Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque, NM. She was born October 23, 1956 at Hillcrest Hospital in Silver City. She grew up in Santa Clara, NM and graduated from Cobre High School in 1975. She was recognized as an excellent student in the Who’s Who among American High School Students in 1973-74 editions. She proudly served in the U.S. Navy right after high school. She met and married her son’s father, Chris Haddock while stationed in Hawaii. They had one child, Jerome Paul Haddock in 1978. Many of her friends and family called Carmen by her middle name Mitzy. She raised her son in Silver City where she worked many years for Wee People Pueblo Day Care Center. Children loved Carmen for her kind, loving and gentle heart. She had a special way with them, that they would be drawn to her. She had a gift for writing poetry. Many of her poems have been published in Famous Poets Society, World of Poetry and New American Poetry books. She was honored with the “Golden Poet Award” from World of Poetry in 1988 for her poem “Tortured Slumber” a tribute to Edgar Allan Poe. She was very much enjoyed writing and sharing holiday poems for the Silver City Daily Press. The Daily Press published many of her poems throughout the years. She enjoyed decorating for the holidays. Her favorite holiday was Halloween. She was very creative with many interests. She loved classic movies and new all the old actors. She was a very lovely and kind person and will be extremely missed by her friends and loved ones. She is survived by her son, Jerome Haddock; her sister, Anna Clum and husband Jarod; nephew, Corey Clum; sister-in-law, Sally Garcia; nephews, Marty and Fabian Garcia; step-father, Richard Gustafson. She was preceded in death by her father, Ermelindo Sandoval Garcia; brothers, Ronnie “Ron” Garcia and Marty “Boy” Garcia. A memorial service will be celebrated Thursday, July 5th at 11:30am at Terrazas Funeral Chapels with Deacon Bill Holguin officiating. Cremation will take place at Terrazas Crematory.
